Chevys 1950's

The Chevy is one of the most recognized icons in the Automotive industry. Stylish and Sporty the thereÕs no doubt that itÕs one of AmericaÕs best and most loved cars. The 1957 Chevrolet a few different trim levels; the base-model "150" series, the mid-range "210" series, and the upscale Bel Air series. An upscale trim option called the "Del Ray" was also available for 210 2-door sedans, and there was a limited production two-door station wagon called the "Nomad" and also even scarcer was the "El Morocco", a custom hand-built series that mimicked the Cadillac.

Under the hood Chevrolet had achieved an engineering milestone, Ed Cole worked magic developing ChevyÕs small-block V8 engine. The original edition was enlarged to 283 cu, with several optional power packages available, pushing it up to 283 hp. The Super Turbo-Fire 283, a $550 option, produced the advertised 283 horsepower with the help of Ramjet continuous-flow fuel injection. On the outside the Bel Air was distinguished with more chrome and featured a golden grille set off with a heavy chrome bar that included parking lights. The rear fins were capped with chrome moldings and highlighted with anodized aluminum side trim panels. The fuel-filler door was concealed in the left rear chrome fin trim, a small but convenient detail that helped clean up exterior lines.The 1955-57 Chevrolets remain a favorite with hot-rodders and classic car enthusiasts.

Chevys 1960's

The big "Jet Smooth" Chevrolet Impala, Bel air and Biscayne returned for 1964 stronger than ever with the new squared-up styling. With much popularity the full-sized Chevy line-up was known for its glamour and comfort all the way down to its performance. The Impala remained the top of the line model offering, followed by the mid-line Bel Air and then the affordable Biscayne. Production continued to soar.

The Impala was separated into its own model making it the second most expensive Chevrolet for 1964. Standard equipment included most of what was available for lower models plus extra thick foam cushion seat, bright aluminum front seat end panels, bright instrument panel insert with nameplate molding, electric clock, parking brake warning light, Impala center emblem on steering wheel, and special padded arm rests for front and rear seats. It came as a 4dr Sedan, 4dr Hardtop Sport Sedan, 2dr Hardtop Sport Coupe, 2dr Convertible, and 4dr Station Wagon (6 passenger and 9 passenger).

For the 425-hp 409 added were the Twin 4 barrel carburetors. Impact-extruded pistons. Forged steel connecting rods and five-main-bearing crankshaft. Cast alloy iron camshaft. And two heads fitted with lightweight valves. Mechanical valve lifters. Dual exhausts, special clutch, and heavy-duty radiator and suspension, among others.
